In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus talks about two builders. One is wise and builds his house on rock, while the other is foolish and builds his house on sand. When storms come, the house on the rock stands firm, but the house on the sand collapses.
“Everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.” (Matthew 7:24)
🔑 Here’s the key lesson. It is not enough to merely know Jesus’ words; we must also choose to act on them daily. This builds a strong ‘rock’ foundation of active faith for our lives, helping us stay strong even when life gets tough.
Think of Jesus’ teachings like a recipe for a healthy meal. Just reading the recipe or remembering the ingredients won’t fill you up or give you the nutrients you need. You actually have to gather the ingredients, cook the meal, and eat it to benefit from it.
In the same way, knowing Jesus’ teachings without following them is like having a recipe but never cooking the meal. You might know the steps and ingredients, but you won’t experience the positive changes that come from living out those teachings.
Questions to Ask Yourself:
- How can I actively put Jesus’ teachings into practice in my daily life to the best of my ability?
- What practical actions can I take to ensure my faith is strong and resilient like a house built on rock?
- In what areas of my life am I merely knowing Jesus’ words instead of living them out?
